Do Feng Shui Remedies Really Work?
You can consider any improvements to your environment as feng shui remedies, cures or adjustments as stated on the previous page
feng shui tips.
I will separate the feng shui remedies into two groups, the first group is aimed at modifying the energy in the environment. The second group finds it's value through symbolism.

The objects often associated with feng shui remedies are: faceted quartz crystals, flutes, mirrors, windchimes and windsocks. These are used as tools to minimize problems in the living space. They are inexpensive and easy to implement but usually considered odd from an aesthetic sensibility. In some cases there are no other solutions to a problem without major renovations. A chime, crystal or mirror strategically placed may solve or minimize an otherwise costly problem.
How do they work?Windchimes are placed to uplift energy in areas that are prone to stagnation. They can also be placed to uplift or raise the profile of a building that may be diminished by it's surroundings. Some feng shui practitioners use the 5 rod windchime to supress negative influences while the 6 or 8 rods chimes tend to raise the level of energy. Windsocks are used to attract and draw attention. The understanding is, "where attention goes energy flows." Flags can be utilized in the same way. The placement of a flag or windsock will be very helpful for a business to gain attention on a not so busy street or to distinguish itself on a busy street with many storefronts. Mirrors are used in feng shui to draw energy inward or to push back and deflect energy. Mirrors are also used to "double" and enhance any images and products that you may be show casing. Mirrors have a "watery" characteristic to them and can be used to incorporate the water element into the environment. You can find a more complete discussion about the use of mirrors and how to adjust your environment in my book

Flutes made of bamboo are hung at a 45 degree angle or vertically to specifically direct energy upwards. Practitioners may recommend hanging 2 flutes on a 45 degree angle to minimize the stress caused by an exposed ceiling beam over a bed, desk or or other important area. Bamboo flutes are used in a variety of cures and symbolism because the bamboo plant is associated with strength and longevity. Faceted quartz crystals are primarily used to disperse energy that is moving too fast in a direct line. The most popular crystals used in this manner are Swarovski chandelier crystals (40, 50, 60mm). They can be strategically hung or placed on a stand to divert and disperse energy. The second group deals with enhancing the environment using symbolism and the "intention" of the person placing the symbolic object of art.It is important to note that Chinese symbols and icons are not feng shui remedies. What gives the symbolic placement of art in the environment power is the meaning the object has for you. A "money frog" with a coin in it's mouth may not be a powerful symbol of prosperity for you because you don't relate to it. The symbolic enhancement you choose should serve as a reminder of the desired outcome and goal you are focusing on.The Chinese culture is rich with symbolism in artistry. It is difficult for someone who is unfamiliar with the symbolism of the Far East to make an emotional connection to a dragon, phoenix, golden carp or pagoda. Understanding these symbols and icons will not help you to achieve strong feng shui. Rather,
your homes surroundings,
lot shape, floor plan,
key area strength,
placement of furniture,
use of color,
directional elements, design and decor will come together to create a home that has auspicious feng shui.
